PROGRAM DIRECTOR

Maggie So, MD, FACP

Dr. Maggie So is a native San Franciscan. She attended the University of California Los Angeles for her undergraduate studies and then received her medical degree from New York Medical College. She came back to San Francisco and completed her residency at CPMC and received the graduating Resident of the Year award and also served as a chief resident.

After working as a hospitalist in the East Bay she returned to CPMC in 2011 to join the Pacific Inpatient Medical Group. Dr. So loves teaching and working with residents and medical students and attends on the wards as a hospitalist. She has received recognition and teaching awards for her work. As Program Director, her areas of interest include bedside teaching, clinical reasoning and resident coaching and mentorship. She hopes to instill the joy of clinical medicine into residency education!

In her spare time, she enjoys exploring the city with her family, going on hikes, rooting for the Giants & Niners, grilling up BBQ in the fog, and hosting parties.

Lori Wong

Lori  Wong is a native of San Francisco and she has been part of the CPMC family for 33 years. All of her 33 years have been spent in the Department of Medicine and the Internal Medicine Residency Training Program. As the Program Administrator she works closely with the Program Directors and the Chief Residents to manage the residency program. She also works closely with the Chairman of Medicine and manages our fellowship program coordinators and medical student coordinator. The best part of her job though is working directly with the residents! Lori is a problem solver, confidant, and truly a mom at heart. She loves taking care of the interns and residents and even the Program Directors!

Lori’s interests are cooking, baking and card making. She loves trying new recipes and often brings in baked goods for the interns and residents and the office team. She is a grandmother of three beautiful little girls. She loves spending time with her family and spoiling her granddaughters.

OUR
CHIEF RESIDENTS

Chief residents are an integral part of the medical education for our medical students and residents. They are chosen in their second year of residency by house staff and their peers and they stay on an extra year following completion of their internal medicine residency training.

Chase Fong, MD

Undergraduate Institution: University of California, Los Angeles

Medical School: New York Medical College, Valhalla, NY

What I love about SF: Having lived in San Francisco and the peninsula prior to medical school, I was so excited to return the City for residency. The various neighborhoods and districts offer plenty of culinary options for the casual foodie, coffee craver, or boba connoisseur (many of whom work at CPMC!). The temperate climate (besides the not-so-infrequent fog) allows for outdoor activities within city limits (weekly hoops with the residents), and excursions to the surrounding hills, beaches, and forested areas.

What I love about CPMC: Working in the heart of urban San Francisco, we encounter a wide range of pathologies through caring for the diverse population we serve. CPMC seamlessly combines the teaching, learning, and quaternary care of academic medicine, with the collaborative and supportive culture of a community program. Training here, I have built lifelong friendships and professional connections, and feel well-prepared for clinical practice.

Trevor Hinshaw, MD

Undergraduate Institution: Gordon College, Wenham, MA

Medical School: UC Davis School of Medicine, Sacramento, CA

What I love about SF:

  • Great park system for me and my cattle dog Stevie to explore (named for Schitt’s Creek)

  • Wide variety of neighborhood styles for this suburb veteran turned city boy to try out

  • Plenty of soccer for that work like balance

  • Stays cool when the rest of the Bay Area is roasting (RIP to my family in San Jose)

What I love about CPMC:

  • The diverse patient population provides a broad range of pathologies to learn from

  • The high value placed on formal education helped round out my education for board prep and beyond

  • Strong, shared focus on the resident and GME-wide community which, let’s be honest, is how we get through these challenging years

Jessica Tran, MD

Undergraduate Institution: University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA

Medical School: California Northstate University College of Medicine, Elk Grove, CA

What I love about SF: As a Bay Area native, I have always held a special place for SF in my heart. SF is a vibrant city with a diverse population and offers something for everyone. Outside of work, you can find me exploring new coffee shops, bakery hopping in search of the best croissant, or catching the symphony or ballet.

What I love about CPMC: This program has exceeded my expectations for clinical training and shaped me into the compassionate, competent doctor I am today and continue striving to be. Beyond that, I am grateful for the life-long friendships cultivated through my years here, and the people at CPMC have truly enriched my residency experience and are a major reason I was excited to stay for an extra chief year.
